Matthew Denman is a guitarist, composer, and teacher who currently resides in the Oklahoma City area. He wears many hats as the director of the Celedonio Romero Guitar Institute, Classen School of Advanced Studies Guitar Director, Southern Nazarene University Assistant Professor of Music, and Director of the Oklahoma Classical Guitar Society. Recent awards and honors include being named Director of the Celedonio Romero Guitar Institute 2012, Images of Excellence (2012, 2010, 2009), and Teacher of the Year (2010-2011 Classen SAS). Many articles have been written about Matt’s success and last Fall he was published in Soundboard magazine.
Students of Professor Denman have recently won top awards at the UT Dallas Guitar Competition, the UT Brownsville Guitar Competition and Festival, and the O’haire Classical Guitar Competition. Many of Matthew’s students have gone on to represent other top universities and conservatories. Last Fall, guitar students from Classen and SNU joined a large guitar orchestra to perform Austin Pictures, a work of Joseph Williams II, with the world renowned Miro String Quartet for a televised performance at Austin City Limits. Also, the SNU guitar program has joined forces with Dr. Matthew Hinsley and the Austin Classical Guitar Societies’ guitar curriculum project, www.guitarcurriculum.com. Matthew is often asked to be a guest clinician and speak about guitar education throughout the United States.
Matthew has enjoyed a thriving performance career playing for orchestras, universities, guitar societies, music festivals, and public school programs. This summer Matthew will be a guest artist in Spain for the Chamber Art Music Festival in Madrid.
